The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as the International Day of Education in celebration of the role of education in peace and development. 

The overarching goal is to raise awareness about the importance of quality education as a fundamental human right and to encourage collaborative efforts worldwide to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to receive a meaningful education.
